Hi! Hope the stupid holidays are treating you well! Haha.... It took me a month to update any news and really its because schedules were still being a pain so there wasnt anything positive to report... I can only bullshit so much you know!. Anywho, were rehearsing again! & Im pretty damn excited to be getting shit done. Were aiming to get 10-12 new tracks down and were already working on #4 so thats a 1/3 of the way down. Its more of a heavier, swaying-sweaty-mid-tempo dance kinda thing. You have to hear it I suppose so you can make your own conclusions... but thats a few months off & thats what im describing it as now, so there!

The totally awesome Katrina Nattress of the L.A. section of Deli Magazine wrote a pretty cool blurb on us here. She clearly has great taste in music and were totally glad she noticed us. Thank you Katrina!!!!

This has been a pretty eventful year & im glad its over. Not like it was bad or anything, but its pretty amazing how much you always learn every year of your life & I want to and need to keep on going forward... I hope we finish this record before the apocalypse comes. 2012!

Ok, so its mid-November...were not exactly punctual. Ive been neglecting this here website and I kinda feel bad about it... mostly out of frustration that schedules have been tough to align & now that the holidays are coming, thats in the way too... why cant everything just be about Secret Alphabet? Haha. Patience... I guess I & we wouldnt have the patience for it if we werent into it...anywho- I hope youre well out there sunshine. Ive missed you. There arent enough hours in the day to live anymore... Im in a hurry & I dont know why. At least music's coming together again. Slowly but surely.... "don't call me shirley!"

Its been a year. When I heard Lindsay's voice I knew it immediately. I wanted to punch you in the face immediately too. I miss you & there isnt a day I dont think or say something to you. Damn. You fucken dick.

Hi. Hows it going? The Wolfgang Sound Studio is coming together. We jammed out in it last weekend but it still needs more padding and that sort of thing. My neighborhood is actually pretty good about playing music, but a little more sound padding would be nice. It feels really damn good in there and I know we'll be working in it soon so thats very exciting! A couple of us are dying to play out... but Im not sure what the hell's going on here at this point.... schedules are crazy. Wah :( but things should clear up soon. I know they will. This will actually give us time to work on our new set.... a little sweatier... a little bouncier....

Hellooooo :) I hope youre good out there. How was your 4th of July? Mine was filled with sweatiness & weird family time. Oh yeah, some fireworks too. The gay legal ones tho, nothing explosive or life-threatening. Still fun tho. Our friday night show @ M Bar turned out to be one of the funnest ones yet/// It turned into a sweaty dance party and a couple nice kids that were dancing kept offering me drinks on stage. It was madness :/ A couple cuties here and there (but not as many as the salsa club next door!), and just plain old really good vibes were on and crackin'! We had a great time. The new stuff really came off well... were digging it and have so much more to work on! Yikes. Exciting!!

Hmmm... things ive been thinking about (in no particular order): finding a good yamaha xs850 engine to swap with my bike. I need more $$$ :( Finding some carpet to soundproof my garage... im tired of paying you amp, just a finance thing. I think youre pretty cool tho. How much of a dick Luke Gabler is... fucker! New songs.... were in the fucken zone. And... you. Up your nose... X

Hi. I hope youre alive and well out there. It feels like time is flying by out of control and were all hurling to our imminent destination... well, at least i do. Its looking like shows are slowly coming together... were playing this coming Friday, 7/1/11 @ M BAR In Hollywood. Its called Buswazi and its being thrown by our local SwampMonster. Hmmm... what else is going on lately? Musically... nothing new coming out excites me. It kinda bums me out. What happened to the flavor of the months? That was a fun time. Im glad making music is still fun tho. Things feel alot more inward than out lately. Ive been having dreams with Wolfgang always following me or vice- versa. Going thru jungles and kind of post-apocalytic type of surroundings... its kinda weird. Then Jules mentioned how the Mayans believed when you die a dog leads you towards and across a river. What a trip. The dreams feel like Im headed somewhere.

Oh- seems like everyones getting engaged lately... how about, we stop that. Yeah? Thanks. Lets not complicate things... yet a least. Miss u. X

Pretty kick ass review that was. We get it! Ha. Makes me happy someone gets us and publishes it. Love L.A. Record, theyre a rare publication that actually listens to peoples shit without it being sent by some publicist or lawyer or something. So today is the last day of my week long vacation. My Jules went to New Orleans and NYC, and I was enslaved by Wolfgang. I wasnt a complete bum tho, I wrote 4 new songs that are definitely in tune with our direction. Kinda full mesmerizing rhythm thing that jabs words at you and makes you feel warm all over. Thats what were doing, sonic hugs. Ha. Were really digging the new stuff///!

Anywho- so were still hunting down gigs. July will be taking us to the famed Malibu Inn, theyre gonna start doing shows there again. I'll give you more info once it comes, should be a fun night of different kinds of music with great vibes. There will be some reggae rhythms that night from what i hear, love that. Im sorta looking forward to getting back to work monday. My job's the type of place that the daily interaction with people makes it feel like a 2nd home. You fall in love with the environment, its actually fun sometimes. Crazy, huh? My last job was killing me and sometimes it feels like this one is keeping me alive. Life's a crazy thing.

Hi. Long time huh? Feels like Ive been working on moving for 2 months, but now its finally done. I love love love my new place! Wolfgang seems to love it even more than I do. My car looks pretty awesome in the driveway too :) Now back in the internet realm and I can start getting back to updates and my random bs'ing-ness. We had a couple shows lining up and they all seemed to go down in flames... as in got cancelled, got bumped to different nights we couldnt do, etc etc... memories of why playing out can be a total pain if everyone isnt in the up and up :( One in particular was bumped days before it happened for something that woulda been perfect for us. Im looking at you Labrie's. They have a rep for double-booking and believe us, its true... unfortunately. One thing that has been a benefit of our frustration with playing out is that weve been working on new music. Were headed toward a dancier, rhythm and groove based sorta thing.... book us and youll hear it for yourself... its slowly taking over our set and were dying to play it out because well... its sounding pretty damn awesome.

Oh- saw Barrington Levi a few weeks back at the greek. Hes amazing. Made me think of how theres so few classic reggae artists alive still. With Alton Ellis leaving us a few months back I think theres only a handfull left... its just crazy how that whole sound of the mid 60's to 80's cant be duplicated at all. No new group has been able to remotely sound as warm and soulful as they did back then... its a weird thing.

I never mentioned how I went with my Jules to go see Peter Hook do 'Unknown Pleasures' a few months back. Anyone who knows me personally knows Im a HUGE fan. I read the mixed reviews with alot of it being 'how dare he!?' but damn it, it was pretty damn amazing. Many times better than I could have imagined. Watching Hooky play bass is always totally awesome but feeling that passion he has to play the Joy Division stuff really stands out. Hes having a great time playing it. The only time Ive heard him sing is when he does 'Everything's Gone Green' live at that New Order show around '80 in NY. It was my favorite part of that vid... sucks that I lost it moving around everywhere. Anywho, I was just thinking of that. Shit like that is inspiring.

My Dart is holding up, by the way... like a dream, and Wolfgang ate a giant pot of spaghetti we had just made on Monday... life is pretty good these days. Whats going on with Secret Alphabet... were officially working with BlakAzz booking for a couple shows for May and most likely beyond... our show at 'Cafe on 2nd' a few weeks back turned out to be alot of fun and the cobwebs came off to remind me why music is so important to my soul. Its a good thing. Anywho, thats an update of the 'Secret Alphabet' beast that still kicks. Live & enjoy yourself. I still think of you everyday. X

Hi! Hope youre doing fantastic out there! New year and its been busy busyyyy already. Were working on a couple things for the year and were excited to start playing again. We have a warm up gig at 'CAFE ON 2ND' in Alhambra this month, 2/18 to be exact and our set time is about 9pm. It will be an intimate affair, but sure to make you sway and dance like a stoned hippy. We'll give you more info on this soon, and include a flyer on our 'live' section with the details. In other more personal news: I got a car! My first one ever! Yeah, I moved out @ 17 so Ive always been more concerned with rent and such.... its a '63 Dart and its oh so pretty! The sound of the engine reminds me of my now deceased bike... oh how I miss you xj650 :( So yeah, new stuff coming up, new songs, new shows, might even get a new member... we'll see. Love you mucho! hi! i hope youre all well. this past month has been a bit of a blur... but im glad all this christmas crap is finally over with. been laying low, writing & playing (not out, in home studios). its a real sanity-maintainer kind of thing. anywho, speaking of playing... as some of you may know, weve been looking to book gigs recently. we'll pretty much play anywhere out there that isnt an empty room. anywhere. so it was much to my surprise when i got a phone call last wednesday night telling me that we were booked to play this, which was for the next night. (you might need to log in to your facebook to see the event link) it was the last show at this place called 'the strange' which is on melrose here in l.a... apparently we had been booked 3 weeks ago and no one bothered to let us know. we would of loved to play there. i was bummed. even a weeks notice would of been doable. ahhh.... the trials & tribulations of dealing with bookers, bands, people... yada yada... all im saying is communication is a great thing. we can all do it via phone call, email, text, snail mail.......

in other news: ive figured out that all you can really do as a musician is keep writing, playing your instruments, & recording. not all of us have the fortune to get recording contracts and go kick it with jay z, but i can at least make some kind of solid document of my time here on earth. oh yeah! we got our first review from the wires... a short & to the point review here @ mercuryinmotion. our record made its way south and found ms. charlotte blom in MS. shes pretty cool and obviously has great taste in music! thanx charlotte!

life's a funny thing... a crazy, intense, unpredictable thing. you meet people all the time... some stick to you & some dont. acquaintances, co-workers, friends of friends... but every now and then, rarely, you meet a person that you instantly click with. some with the intensity that you swear youve always known that person... timelesss... eternal past lives... it all makes sense. yes, i get it. youre fucken right about everything... ive known a person like that. his name's luke gabler. hes from ny but i met him in l.a. we lived together for over 2 years... we painted, we drank, we shot pictures, we drank, we were fucken assholes and we spoke our minds... it was an amazing time in my life. i miss him. life was open and free and fun and timeless...

this one hurts. appreciate those that youve known forever. those timeless souls you keep running into... & thank them for the inspiration to keep going. X

alo alo... how goes it? good i hope. this stinkin' year is almost over, which wasnt a bad one at all. december's going to be my 1 year anniversary at my current job which i totally love. yeah- i cant believe i actually enjoy my job, its madness! my last job ended on a sour note for me, but c'est la vie & theres always something better up ahead. its true... apparently so. hmmm... secret alphabet... will we ever tour? does anyone even give a shit? i guess thats the real question... its weird how every single band you ever hear of, at least not local, is on some kind of popular 'indie' label or something... mexican summer, slumberland.... yada yada... not knocking the labels or anything, we'd fucken LOVE to be on anyones roster, im just wondering... outside of that, what does a band do to get attention? ive maybe heard of 1 in 1000 of those bands before i see them being reviewed by pitchfork on yadayada label. does everyone know someone that knows someone that knows someone? maddening... isnt it? check this out: HERE

hi. hope everyone's halloween has been a good one! i was around usc last night & saw a bunch of girls in bikini's.... super slutty costumes... the good stuff... not sure what they were, but they wore it well :/ my halloween was allright i suppose.... now thanxgiving's right around the corner. yikes! time is flying. anywho- so we here at secret alphabet headquarters, aka wolfgang sounds, are in the process of shooting a couple vids of the band. the first one, a simple introduction via 'by design' is up on the web!

Hi. Hope youre marvelllousssss out there. Things are rather good here in 'secret alphabet'- land... things were stressfull, nerve-racking and kinda depressing for a minute there but just as it always turns out: it all came together perfectly. We have a new drummer... hahhhhh... drummers... one of the great mysteries of our time... but Jordan Warrick does something with the drums that makes me feel the kick in my gut and i like it. Spaceland went better than i thought it would... the 40+ early birds paid attention... thank you to those who came out. Our litttle moody band is growing up & it feels good. Gigs coming up... & artwork is being finalized. It might of been tooo much fun for me since I dont remember much- its always a great vibe there and the audience actually listens to the music. I like it when inbetween songs the audience just stares quietly and waits for the next song to start... something about that tension in the air... Were playing again next week, 4/8 @ Good Hurt on the Westside. We dont venture much on that side of the tracks but I hear they have a totallllllly kick ass sound system there that were just total suckers for. Art work---- final phases... i hope.

Hi. So... this is our new site :) woohoo! It took me a while but I figured out design stuff, and with the help of Richard, Im sorta getting some of the tech stuff too... sorta. The internet... how i missed you... glad i got my shit together, that was a rough month or so. Anywho- happy new year! Things are looking good, our record's getting mastered, should be totally done by the end of this month. How crazy is that? it only took almost 2 years or so... and it is sounding buttah. im glad this time around we didnt rush too much and things got done when they were meant to be done. Its the way its supposed to be. The end of this past year was ever sooooo stressful for me to a degree that was kind of unbelievable so Im glad its mostly all behind me- things are going to be great this year, at least something in my gut keeps telling me. Charlie- I havent forgotten about you and im sorry i got caught up in a rut, should be clear quite soon and all those things are going your way. You rock! Almost... done.

Gawd... I just saw an old video and it really made me miss practicing and just plain old kicking it at Sik Studios. Thats the place where we totally came together and its still kind of a bummer that it died, or at least that the old incarnation of it died. Good times happened there, and its becoming a whole new thing that im sure is going to turn out dope, but it wont be Sik Studios. aaarrghhhhh... anywho, good things are happening with us. For one, mixing is totally done. Yes, DONE! Now its up to me to get it mastered and we'll all work out the artwork and such. Its alot of work getting something done right, especially if its coming out of your own pocket that you have to have a day job sustain. Shit, wheres my advance Universal???? haha We woulda had 3 albums done already. Anywho, new shit's happening with me, tho I cant reveal it just yet. Change is good, friends you can count on are good, reliable band mates are wayyyyy good(!) and of course, amazing fans like Charlie from NJ are toooo fucken good. You rock Charlie! Wow. Almost been a whole month... yowzaaaaa... anywho, i hope all is well with you, whoever you are. Its been kinda rough but things are looking promising, i see good things, good things damn it! I went to a titty bar a few weekends ago with Dirty Deee and his partner in crime after seeing the awesome HELEN STELLAR at Cinespace. Weird venue with all that Hollywood pizzazz. Hellen Stellar was loud and fuzzy, which i love, so i definitely had a good time. They were, dare i say: stellar. haha. So the titty bar, actually nude. Never been to one of those, it was like loving chocolate and going to Willy Wonka's. Crazy. It was a really fun night. The next day i caught what was supposed to be the last Bastidas show. Its definitely not their last show, and i actually missed their set. Still got to kick it with Sonia & Co tho, but then we saw the cops roll in and raid Silver Factory while we were in a car so I had to bounce. All that within like 10 mins., crazy :) I took pics of a couple of our friends wearing our shirts so i'll put that up soon, and about more stuff... soon. Its all coming together... slowly but surely...

Hi! Miss me? Didnt think so... wah wah wah.... anywho... news... news.... we have SHIRTS! Like, for real this time! Guess I should put up a pic of someone modeling one, eh? Only got mediums this time around tho. Ngene did a fantabulous job! Havent been able to update as much as I'd like do to my totally hostile workplace and since my mac died last week :( Tre' sad indeed. Kinda having a rough time but that tends to happen here and there so no use crying over it... worst thing is that the starter for my bike also kinda died so now im waiting for a new one to come in so I can get back on it. Hi. So last show... some shit went down. One of the bands, didnt show up... (or left early?) and quite possibly, maybe stole one of the other band's toms? Its not for certain which is why Im not naming names. The drummer with the missing piece of said equipment freaked out for a good hour until he calmed down for a couple minutes to play a 15ish minute set. Since it was alot of dramaaaaa(!), the night was cut short, and one of the bands didnt get to play, tho they were a very courteous and very understanding bunch. It was quite nice to meet such a cool couple of guys. One of the bands that did get to play was M31. Right off the bat, they had sooper dooper cool attitudes and despite the drams, they just wanted to play a short set and check us out too since we havent seen each other play. Needless to say, theyre one of our local favs now thanx to their amazingly gracious attitudes and of course, their rocking music! Its great to know theres musicians like that out here.
As for us, were just going to play a few shows here and there until our album comes out and then were thinking of taking a ride up to San Fran and play a couple shows down along the coast. If this past gig taught me anything, its that were ready to go nuts. Were playing better than ever- and we hadnt practiced in well over a month. Its a shame that sounding good is only a small part of the equation when it comes down to getting some sort of attention, but we'll work with what we have.
